GM LS-2 Lubricant Coding

GENERAL MOTORS CODING

General Motors issued two key maintenance lubrication standards (as opposed to factory fill lubricants) and has continued to update them.  GM LS-1 (Basic lubrication standards for industrial equipment) deals with the lubrication systems and promotes:  1) Worker health and safety; 2) Lubrication maintenance; 3) Equipment reliability and maintainability; 4) Ease and low cost of maintenance.

GM LS-2 covers the technical details of maintenance lubricants that are to be used in LS-1 systems; establishes a coding system for 15 families by application; and describes recycling of maintenance lubricants.  It also has an approval system to establish lubricant suppliers of GM plants.
