* A grain is 17 ppm, (calcium plus magnesium). Water hardness is a measure of the amount of inorganic salts (calcium and magnesium) in the water. These inorganic salts react with soaps in metal working fluids to produce scum. In soluble oils they cause emulsions to break. It is advised to use water treatment methods to reduce very hard water. |
